First edition, signed by Montgomery on the front free endpaper, "Montgomery of Alamein, Field-Marshal, June 1946." Monty's own account of his commands during the Second World War covers from Normandy Onwards through to his acceptance of the German surrender on Luneberg Heath. This edition preceded the Hutchinson trade edition and was issued "for private circulation in the British Army of the Rhine. NOT to be circulated or quoted." Octavo. Colour map frontispiece, 45 colour maps (all but 1 folding, Map 46 not present as issued), 3 folding diagrams, facsimiles in text. Original red cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, 21 Army Group shield to upper board in blue and gilt, cream endpapers. With supplied dust jacket. Light marking on spine, head of boards sunned, top edge toned, creasing and toning where some material incorrectly refolded, skinning to final map with facing page affected; jacket flaps without price as issued, spine toned, adhesive tape repair at head of spine, light foxing: a very good copy in like jacket.
