Signed presentation copies of two very scarce first editions from F. A. Evelyn, a 20th century translator of Greek tragedies and poetry. Signed presentation copies of two very scarce first editions, being 'Agrippinga: Empress-Mother', and a collection of fourteen translations of existing verses titled "Amid the Alien Corn".The first of these works is a play about the life of Aggrippina the Younger, the mother of Nero. Retaining the publisher's original front and rear wraps, and inscribed by the author to the head of the verso of the title page 'John Barron from Francis A. Evelyn, Strands Hotel Wasdale, Sept. 8, 1955'The second work is a collection of English translations of poems titled "Amid the Alien Corn", and inscribed 'with every good wish' in Evelyn's hand to the first leaf. This includes translations of poems from Horace, Victor Hugo, Goethe, and Pushkin.In a lovely half calf binding from the Ipsley Bindery. In a half calf signed binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, fine. Endpapers renewed. Internally, firmly bound. First work retains publisher's original front and rear wrap. Second work lacks title page. Author's inscription to title page verso of volume I, and head of first leaf of volume II. Handling marks to tail of first leaf of volume II, with pages otherwise clean and bright. Very Good Indeed
