Joost van den Vondel (1587-1679) was a Dutch playwright, poet, translator and writer - "generally regarded as the greatest writer in the Dutch language as well as an important figure in the history of Western literature" (Wikipedia). His 1654 translation, Q. Horatius Flaccus Lierzangen en Dichtkunst (The Lyrical Chants and Art of Poetry of Q. Horatius Flaccus), was the first translation of Horace into Dutch.
