THIRD EDITION, 2 VOLUMES, divided into 3 parts and a supplement, complete set, revised and enlarged with relation to the latest publications on geology, 1844. First edition published in 1822. EX LIBRARY SET. 8vo, approximately 230 x 130 mm, 9 x 5 inches, pages: Volume 1, lxxx, [1], 1-353; Volume 2: viii, 1-426, untrimmed copies and all pages after page xxviii are unopened, bound in original publisher's cloth, gilt lettering to spines, blind decoration to covers, yellow endpapers. Bindings faded, slight wear to head and tail of spines and hinges, small shelf label removed from spines and first pastedowns, corners slightly worn at tips, occasional light spotting or small stain, large purple library stamp and neat ink name to first free endpaper of both volumes, pale staining to pastedowns and endpapers. A very good tight set, no loose pages. Granville Penn FSA (1761 1844) was a British author, and scriptural geologist. He was a grandson of William Penn. Granville Penn died in 1844 so this edition was the last published in his life time. Penn, fluent in French, Greek, Latin and Hebrew, was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and wrote several books dealing with Biblical criticism and published a number of competent translations of ancient Greek works, including a critical revision of the English version of the New Testament (Wikipedia).
