FIRST EDITION, pp. 319, crown 8vo, original red cloth, the border to upper board and lettering to backstrip stamped in black, bottom corners very gently knocked, endpaper maps printed in brown, dustjacket with designs to front and backstrip panels by 'K R T' [i.e., Kenneth Romney Towndrow], minor restoration to address a little chipping to ends of backstrip panel and folds, very good. A superb copy of this scarce novel, whose Indian setting (as with his earlier 'Dog-Face') would seem to reflect the author's own travels; in the same year he published 'An Unfrequented Highway' with the Scholartis Press, which was the account of a journey 'through Sikkim and Tibet to Chumolaori' - Eric Partridge would also publish, in 1929, his memoir of service in the Great War as part of the volume 'Three Personal Records of the War'. The dustjacket is one of a small number of designs in this medium by K. Romney Towndrow, all of them superb - others include work for Henry Green ('Living'), Karel apek ('Krakatit'), and Henri Barbusse ('Under Fire').
