Frontispiece portrait of John Collins Warren, 2 leaves [title page, contents], 181 pp; portrait of Alonzo Potter. Original cloth. Small chip out of upper blank margin of one leaf (179/180), else Near Fine. First Edition. This copy was a gift from "S W", who was James Sullivan Warren, a son of John Collins Warren, to his aunt, ? Grant. Pencil note on blank leaf after front flyleaf: "To ? Grant/ for 50 years my fathers attached/ and true friend -- this is/ gratefully presented/ by her nephew/ SW/ Newport/ Sept 8th 1857" (see photo; because the writing is faint, I have enhanced its readability in this photo). John Collins Warren died in 1856, a year before this book was published.
