The Annals of the Bohemian Club 1872-1880 and 1880-1887. Fletcher, Robert H., historiographer. San Francisco: Hicks-Judd Company. Two-volume set. Limited editions - Vol 1 is #390 of 600 and Vol 2 is #75 of 600. Text and illustrations provided by the members. The books were originally sold only by subscription within the Club. The Bohemian Club is a private men-only social club with two locations, one on Nob Hill in San Francisco and one called Bohemian Grove, a retreat in Sonoma County. The Club was founded in 1872, and our set's narrative begins with that founding. The membership apparently includes many well-known men, is very exclusive and the membership list is kept private. The Club is known for its annual weekends at The Grove and the ribald antics ("jinks") that apparently take place there. The narrative refers to these "jinks" and has much information on the activities of the Club. Set of two hardcovers, with gilt titles and Club emblem on the front cover. Many photographic illustrations throughout with tissue guards. 8x10 inches, 242 and 247 pages. With Club officers listed at the back (past membership lists are in the public domain, but current membership lists are private). Very good condition, light finger soil, with bookplate of Alfred Fowler on both inside front covers and Eva Fowler's name written on the endpapers. Eva Neumann Fowler was the daughter of socially elite Paul Neumann (1839-1901) who was a politician, lawyer and diplomat in San Francisco and Hawaii and president of The Bohemian Club during 1882-3 and is listed as such at the back. Eva married Londoner Alfred Fowler, a partner in a steam plough company. We do not know if he was a member. **May require extra postage.""
