Each copy contains an original autograph by the Author. This book contains thirty-four of Hardy's poems to his wife Emma, whom he met in Cornwall in 1870; the intention was to put together a collection of poems in Hardy's own hand prefaced by his own signature, and made possible by the discovery in the museum of 157 sheets signed in preparation for a different work.
