These two books were published with similar decorations and bindings in 1880 by Macmillan and Company. They are approximately 5 by 7 1/2 inches. Alice's Adventures is a "New Edition" and has 192 pages of text followed by 8 pages of advertisements. It has forty-two illustrations by John Tenniel. Through the Looking Glass i has 224 pages of text and 8 pages of advertisements. This volume has fifty illustrations by John Tenniel, and the frontispiece is protected by a tissue guard. Both volumes have brown paste downs and end papers, gilt lettering on the spine and front board. There are also some decorations in black. The spine ends of both volumes are worn, e.g. are soft, show the board beneath the blue covers, and missing a bit of the blue cloth covers-Please see photos provided. There is also edge wear to both volumes and exposed corners. Pages are evenly age toned. Both volumes are solidly bound and without writing other than a previous owner's name-same name in both volumes.
