In the intellectual climate of mid-16th-century Europe, Galenâ s theories still formed the cornerstone of medical education, though they were being re-examined in light of new anatomical discoveries by Vesalius and others. This Rouillà edition of De Morborum et Symptomatum Differentiis et Causis reflects that transitional moment between classical tradition and the dawn of empirical medicine. Galenâ s systematic categorization of disease by its causa (cause), locus (location), and symptoma (manifestation) offered physicians a comprehensive framework for diagnosis and prognosisâ "one that would dominate European medical thought for nearly two millennia. The six books address the distinctions between diseases of composition and temperament, the role of humoral imbalance, and the subtle interplay of anatomy, physiology, and environment. Copusâ s learned Latin translation, praised for its clarity and fidelity to the Greek, helped to circulate Galenic medicine through the universities of Paris, Padua, and Basel, influencing physicians and scholars long after its publication. Condition:ÂInterior remarkably clean for its age: light toning, minor foxing, and a few faint waterstains. Early manuscript notes to endpapers, including ownership inscriptions and an ex-libris label of Lucien dâ Ursin (Antwerp). Overall- good. Contemporary limp vellum binding with yapp edges and remains of original leather ties. Spine shows manuscript title in early ink, with five raised sewing supports visible through the vellum. Binding is tight and well-preserved, with some age toning, light soiling, and natural waviness to vellum
