First edition, 12mo, pp. [iii]-xii, 147, [1]; portrait frontispiece; spine slightly sunned, else a near fine copy in original brown cloth stamped in gilt. This copy with a note on the front free endpaper: "Corrections in the text made from list of errata supplied by the translator. 5-28-25." In all, there are approximately two dozen corrections in ink throughout, some rather substantial. As there was no errata issued with the book, and as later printings do not contain the corrections present here, this copy must be considered a unique and final text. The autobiography of the great scholar and monk the Reverend Mandju. "The original Chinese text was written by the incomparable brush of the brilliant scholar and Buddhist monk, the late Rev. Mandju, who tells, in lines of lyrical grace, of his great struggle between religion and love, incidentally revealing glimpses of monastic life and Buddhistic rites, as well as his colourful adventures and delightful musings" (jacket blurb).
