4to. Pp. viii, 41. Frontis. portrait of Captain Huddart. Gift inscription to Thomas Ormiston on title-page. Two bookplates (Ormiston's; noted maritime collector Frederick Ellis) on front pastedown. Marbled endpapers with gilt inner dentelles. Bound by J. Larkins in indigo-colored leather, gilt lettering and decoration stamped on cover and spine. Dampstain affecting textblock throughout; edge-wear. Inscription to Thomas Ormiston appears to be from James Walker, Huddart's correspondent herein. As a principle engineer improving the harbors at the Isle of Man, the River Mersey, the extension of the Bute Docks, Cardiff, and many lighthouses, Ormiston worked directly under James Walker in the firm Walker, Burges, and Cooper. Ormiston then went on to serve as Resident Engineer at the port of Bombay and Princes Dock; upon the latter's opening, 1880, Ormiston was awarded Companion of the Indian Empire.
