[24], 270, [2] p., 1 b/w plate ; With a final contents leaf. 19cm (8vo). Richard Allestree 1622 28 January 1681) was an English Royalist churchman and provost of Eton College from 1665. The book is generally attributed to Richard Allestree, who also authored The Whole Duty of Man, but is sometimes variously attributed to Dorothy Coventry Lady Pakington, Richard Sterne, John Fell, or Humphrey Henchman and others. 'The Ladies Calling' was very popular and reached twelve editions by 1727. For a long time it was a canonical authority regarding advice manuals for ladies. Now scarce.
