Jacket Condition: . 14cm x 14cm. A set of 12 hand painted silk cartouches, trimmed with braid, containing verses from the Rubaiyat and with illustrations by Edmund Dulac. The illustrations are for Quatrain XII, XV, XX, XXVII, XXVIII, XL, XLIV, LX, LXX, CIV, CIX. The silks are contained within a contemporary, though likely not original, box. A beautiful and unusual set in excellent condition with just a hint of toning and one or two loose threads. The box which has repairs to the corners and a stain on the bottom appears to be made to hold similar cartouches but the image on the front does not match its contents. Dulac's Rubaiyat was first published in 1907 with 20 plates. New editions in the 1920s were issued with just 12. Scarce as a complete set. Rainford & Parris Books welcomes enquiries, so please do not hesitate to ask if you require further images or have any questions. All books are packaged with great care.
