The fifth iteration of this annual compilation of writings by Universalists. Printed by William A. Hall & Co.'s Press: Boston, and bound by Benjamin Bradley: Boston with that firm's tiny embossed stamp to the front flyleaf. 12mo: 304 pp. with the frontispiece, extra title page vignette, and 3 full-page plates, all steel engravings with tissue guards, by E. Hobart, O. Pelton, W.H. Tappan, and A.C. Warren, after William H. Bartlett, J. Liverseege, H. Melville, and E. Wakefield. In the publisher's chestnut morocco binding designed by Alexander C. Morin, with embossed borders, floral ornamental surround, and wreath of wheat around cherub with flower chain, all on a horizontal fine-ribbed background on the front and rear panels; and embossed ornamental bands, heraldic compartment devices, and vignette of roses, and gilt-stamped titling on the spine. All edges gilt, with pale cream coated endpapers. Just a hint of foxing, with some oxidation to the endpapers and a period previous owner's ink signature to the front flyleaf. The binding is remarkably fresh, with a bit of light fading along the spine. Faxon 714. Provenance: from the Publishers' Bookbindings collection of Ellen K. Morris and Edward S. Levin.
