Octavo: 192 X 125mm, pagination: l [i.e. 50], 272, with 25 illustrations, including frontispiece and 11 full page, plus text illustrations by John Jellicoe and Hebert Railton, art nouveau style initial letters, finely bound by Zaehnsdorf in full sage green crushed morocco, the sides ornately gilt panelled to romantic floral design enclosed in plain gilt fillet border, spine gilt paneled with with flat raised bands, gilt ruled, inner gilt dentelles with matching floral corner-pieces and gilt and dot fillet borders, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, neat old signature to front blank. CONDITION: Spine evenly faded else a fine copy Further Comments First Edition thus, a finely printed, well designed and illustrated version of a Victorian classic, Anne Manning's fictionalised story of Sir Thomas More, 'a picture of More's home life in the form of a diary written by his daughter Margaret'. The binding of our copy is of superior quality signed by Zaehnsdorf, and with the oval gilt exhibition stamp to lower inner paste-down.
