HISTORY OF THE ORIGIN FORMATION AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSTITUTION BY GEORGE TICKNOR CURTIS 1854 1ST EDITION. I am very pleased to be able to offer for your consideration a two-volume set of leather bound books titled: History of the Origin, Formation and Adoption of the Constitution of the United States, with Notices of its Principal Framers, by George Ticknor Curtis. This two-volume set of leather bound hard cover books (6 ¼ x 9 ¼ inches, 518 & 653 pages respectively) were published by Harper & Bros. of New York and the First Edition with the same dates on title and copyright pages. These books are bound in marbled papered boards with quarter spines and corners in calf leather and with five raised bands and title labels on the spines. There are no illustrations. Condition: These two books are in very good condition. There is wear to the boards including a split to one of the title labels on the spine and edge wear to the bottom of the papered boards. The gutters are also rubbed but surprisingly fully intact. This set was once library books and there are light white numbers on the spine and the usual markings, including poorly removed cards and pockets inside the endpapers. The early pages of Volume I show a tide line from exposure to water but this does not seem to penetrate the book. On the contrary, the interior pages of both volumes are surprisingly clean and bright and without toning or foxing. Like the gutters, all the hinges are intact and this no doubt accounts for the fact that the bindings are tight and sound.
