Original Australian daybill movie poster for Stanely Kubrick's film adaptation of *Lolita*. Measuring approximately 13 ½" x 30". Creased twice from being folded for mailing (as issued), and some bumping to the corners with some very light toning to the margins, still near fine with the illustration clean and bright. Features an illustration of Sue Lyon as Dolores "Lolita" Haze peering over her now iconic heart-shaped sunglasses. The poster states, "The book is banned! How did they ever make a movie of Lolita?" and at the bottom, "Not suitable for children." A disclaimer that unintentionally, though rather ironically highlights the misguided production of the film, which Nabokov himself was ultimately unhappy with, and which had traumatizing real-life consequences for the underage star of the film, Sue Lyon, who, in an awful instance of life imitating art, became entangled in a "relationship" with the film's producer, a then 32 year-old James Harris. The bright and bold, almost pop-art style of the illustration combined with its ironic subtext and unique format makes this an exceptionally novel piece.
