Frontispiece, title page and five other illustrations etched by D.Y. Cameron. First edition. 8vo., original quarter dark brown cloth, lettered and elaborately decorated on the spine, over pale brown decorated cloth, printed in black. London, John Lane. An early anthology of essays, mostly written when Buchan was an undergraduate - this was his third book, published when he was only twenty one years old, and in principally about the outdoor life: " . . . the scholar is overmuch a man of books and colleges; pale-faced and dull-eyed, lacking the joys and humanities of life [.] Yet the way for him is easy; down one street and across another; and thence to the open country, to the green woodland, where the air is free and the great Earth-Mother as gracious as the Muses". An excellent copy, with a small nick to the head of the spine.
