The most famous maritime disaster of all time occurred when this "unsinkable" British passenger liner sunk in the icy North Atlantic on April 15, 1912, two hours and forty minutes after striking an iceberg. DS, 1p, 8½" X 11", n.p., n.y. Very good. Minor age toning and edgewear only and single light horizontal fold. Full-page modern reproduction of the front page of the April 16, 1912 issue of "The New York Times," bearing headline "Titanic Sinks Four Hours After Hitting Iceberg; 866 Rescued by Carpathia, Probably 1250 Perish; Ismay Safe, Mrs. Astor Maybe, Noted Names Missing" and below this an image of the Titanic -- likely removed from book, with different "New York Times" front page on verso. Within the 5½" X 3½" photo, surrounding the vessel, are the bold signatures in ink of five survivors and one other. Alphabetically: 1) AKS, Frank (1911-91), signs in blue ballpoint and adds "#11," his lifeboat number; 2) DEAN, Bertram V. (1910-92), signs in black ballpoint; 3) HART, Eva (1905-96), signs in black ink; 4) MacKENZIE, Edwina C. Troutt (1881-1984), signs in blue ballpoint and adds "saved in Lifeboat 13"; 5) ROBB, Marjorie N. (1889-1992) signs in blue ballpoint; and 6) LORD, Walter (1917-2002), author of the 1955 bestseller "A Night to Remember," signs in black fineline. A dramatic piece and superb assemblage signed in old age by several last survivors and the author who really got the Titanic juggernaut rolling -- most unusual to see these together on one item.
