First edition, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "May Allah give you peace and may you live forever! With deepest salaams Lowell Thomas." Thomas coined the phrase "Lawrence of Arabia" and transformed Lawrence into one of the most enduring heroic figures of the First World War. Thomas (1892-1981) met Lawrence in Jerusalem in February 1918 while working for the US War Department as a publicist. With his cameraman, Harry Chase, he spent two weeks with Lawrence, capturing reels of film to create the innovative multimedia lecture-performance "With Allenby in Palestine and Lawrence in Arabia", later shortened to "With Lawrence in Arabia". Front free endpaper with traces of red ink inscription, now mostly erased.
