A complete set of the auction catalogues for the five sales of photographs from Cecil Beaton's studio. As ill health dogged the final years of Cecil Beaton's life, he decided to sell the contents of his studio through Sotheby's in order to generate an annual income. The sales took place between 1977 and 1980, and included the photographic prints from his archive, omitting the Royal portraits and those images held by Condé Nast. Sotheby's retained the studio negatives and key vintage prints, and formed the Cecil Beaton Archive. Some of Beaton's scrapbooks and collages were also listed, alongside occasional works by artists and photographers whom Beaton admired and collected. 1,000 lots are listed and illustrated over the five sales. This scarce complete set of the catalogues forms a vital reference for any collectors and dealers in Beaton's photographs.
