Five photographs depicting Chinese farmworkers in New York around 1912. In the late 19th century, many Chinese people, facing increasing anti-Chinese hostility, left the west coast and came east. Many came to the New York City area, which still had its rural parts especially Queens, where many of these photos were taken, and which was relatively hard to reach from more urban Manhattan until the completion of several transit projects, starting with the Queensboro Bridge in 1909. These would bring in rapid development, spelling the end of farming in Queens. Significant damage to edges; very good. Five photographs; four measuring 8 x 10 inches and one 5 x 8 inches.
