Very scarce memorial publication commemorating the the visit of George Frederick Samuel Robinson [Earl de Grey and Ripon] to the United States, hosted by the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia in 1871. The book prints lists of those Grand Masters present, their RSVP letters, committees involved, and a detailed transcript of the ceremony. Interestingly, there was also international political importance tied to this visit. Ripon was chair of the joint committee which drew up the Treaty of Washington between the U.K. and U.S. and which was signed and ratified just a few months later. This copy with an interesting provenance from Samuel M. Todd, Grand Master of Louisiana, who was present for the festivities.Todd (1815-1905) served as Grand Master of Masons in Louisiana in 1859, 1868, and 1870-1872. He was also grand commander of the Knights Templar of Louisiana in 1866-67. OCLC cites just 4 holdings for this handsomely printed commemoration. . 8vo, [5], 79pp. Tipped in at front is the printed letter of invitation, completed in manuscript, to [Todd] Grand Master of Louisiana from the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia.
