This is a collection of two bound volumes of the publication "The New York Times - Mid-Week Pictorial" that are loaded with World War I photographs, maps, and content. There are 104 issues in all. All covers are present. The January 24, 1918 front cover features a front cover illustration of Leon Trotsky. The December 7, 1916 issue features a wonderful front cover photograph of the Statue of Liberty. The February 8, 1917 issue features a front cover illustration of Abraham Lincoln. There are many photographs showing the horrors of trench warfare. The issues do contain bits content other than World War I such as sports (including Yale vs. Princeton football), hunting, "personalities" of the day (including Thomas Edison), Sir Ernest Shackleton's South Pole Expedition, American politics (such as the inaugural speech of Woodrow Wilson), but the vast majority of the content centers around World War I. Hefty, over-sized volumes that weigh over 30 pounds when packaged. The following 104 issues are included. VOLUME 4-5, 1916-1917 (46 issues): 1916 - October 19, 26. November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. VOLUME 6-8, 1917-1918 (58 issues): 1917 - September 6, 13, 20, 27. October 4, 11, 18, 25. November 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. December 6, 13, 20, 27. 1918 - January 3, 10, 17, 24, 31. February 7, 14, 21, 28. March 7, 14, 21, 28. April 4, 11, 18, 25. May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. June 6, 13, 20, 27. July 4, 11, 18, 25. August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. September 5, 12, 19, 26. October 3, 10. Condition: Overall the collection is in Good- condition. VOLUME 4-5: Some scratches and scuff lines on the covers. No visible cracks or tears to the binding can be seen, though the covers are shaky. The front cover of the 1st issue has a 2" tear at the lower-inner corner. Some small tears along the outer edge of the first few issues. The remaining pages are in nice condition - age-toned and a bit brittle, though clean; occasional tears and bits missing here and there. A small cluster of 4 pages from the Nov 2, 1916 issue has pulled from the spine and is detached; these pages have small tears along the edges. VOLUME 6-8: crack at front hinge resulting in the front cover being a bit shaky; a cluster of about a couple dozen or so pages within the September 6 & 13 issues are shaky and have nearly detached from the spine with small tears along the perimeter of the pages; the pages that follow are a bit brittle, though clean with occasional tears and pieces missing here and there.
