Second printing. Octavo, pp., 73. Illustrated sky blue paper wraps, Heaney portrait to lower cover. Inscribed by the author to the front free endpaper 'for Ric Caddel, "Our poetry is as a quill which oozes from whence 'tis nourished." Seamus Heaney 10th October 1975'. North was Heaney's first work to directly address the Troubles, viewing the political unrest and violence of the period through the lens of past invasions of Ireland. Richard Caddel (1949 2003) was a noted figure in the British Poetry revival of the 60's and 70's, having been inspired to write after meeting Tom Pickard and Basil Bunting in Newcastle. He helped Connie Pickard to organise the Morden Tower readings, and eventually had over twenty of his anthologies published. He helped his wife Ann found and run the Pig Press and was latterly director of the Basil Bunting Poetry Centre at Durham University. Spine slightly sunned to spine, minor shelf wear.
