Stated First Edition. You can see the maroon covers in the photos. They are quite clean. The wrap-around silver band has a thin separation at each of the spine folds. The band is otherwise in perfect condition. The thin space is present in pretty much all of the other copies for sale on the Internet, the opening and closing of the book over time would have created it. Unlike a number of other copies for sale, the spine of this book is not toned or faded. There is a light bit of crinkling at its top and bottom edges. There's also a fairly light vertical crease or indent just below the spine's top edge. The cover edges are in excellent condition, no rubbing at all. There are two teeny tiny dents at the bottom edge of the rear cover, not much of anything. The maroon color of the cover edges is not faded are lightened, not even at the top edges. The silver band which can be seen on the middle edges is in perfect condition there. The top page edge has retained its gray topstain. It looks very good. There are a few thin scratches on the top page edge. The middle page edge is deckled or rough-cut. They did a very good job. The cover corners are also in excellent condition, free of any rubbing. The spine has a slight forward lean, although you can adjust it away. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I haven't found any instances of soiling. There is a tiny, thin line on the blank front end paper, not really needing to be mentioned, but there it is. There's also a tiny, thin indent at the margin of the first handful of pages not reaching the print, something must have pressed down a bit, very light. The aforementioned scratches at the top page edge created one or two little nicks at the top edges of pages 85 through 148. I didn't see any tears, just the nicks. One similar nick can be seen at the top edge of ten consecutive pages later in the book, not much of anything. I didn't see any tears on any the pages. Page 381-382 has a bit of crinkling off a small part of its top edge, not reaching the print. I didn't see any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. 'Rebecca is a 1938 Gothic novel by the English author Daphne du Maurier. It depicts an unnamed young woman who impetuously marries a wealthy widower, before discovering that both he and his household are haunted by the memory of his late first wife, the title character. A bestseller which has never gone out of print, Rebecca sold 2.8 million copies between its publication in 1938 and 1965. It has been adapted numerous times for stage and screen, including a 1939 play by du Maurier herself, the film Rebecca (1940), directed by Alfred Hitchcock, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and the 2020 remake directed by Ben Wheatley for Netflix. The story has also been adapted as a musical. The novel is remembered especially for the character of Mrs. Danvers, the West Country estate Manderley, which du Maurier's editor noted 'is as much an atmosphere as a tangible erection of stones and mortar', and for its opening line: 'Last night, I dreamt I went to Manderley again.'
