1st printings of the first Canadian hardcover editions of The Handmaid's Tale (Toronto: M&S, 1985 - 0771008139) and, its sequel, The Testaments (Toronto: M&S, 2019 - 9780771009433). This copy of The Testaments is autographed by Atwood on a preliminary page. ALSO INCLUDED is The Testaments Canvas Tote Bag, which shares the jacket art and excerpts the line "Under his eye". This example of The Handmaid's Tale is not signed. Cream cloth boards and maroon cloth binding with maroon end papers and cream titles. The book is near fine. It is tight with no markings by a previous owner or retailer. Typical of this edition, the maroon binding shows shelf wear at the heel and crown of the spine, and the heel of the book's spine has softened. The exposed page edges are unblemished but mildly tanned. The corners of the boards are blunted but not bruised. The bottom edge of the front paste down was torn when extra paper was removed due to an error at the binding stage. The price intact jacket has darkened, and a 3 x 8 inch section of the front panel is sunned, next to the spine. There are two one-inch tears in the top edge of the back panel, one with associated wrinkles. The heel and crown of the jacket's spine have softened, as have the folds in the jacket. The edges of the flaps are crisp. The Testaments is the edition that is pre-signed on a preliminary page, with a sticker on the back panel of the jacket that bears the ISBN for the signed edition and which covers the ISBN for the trade edition printed on the jacket. Full navy blue cloth with decorated end papers and silver titles. The book is tight and unread with sharp corners. The jacket is bright, crisp and price intact with sharp edges. The Testaments was co-winner of the Booker Prize. Buyer will be asked to pay the actual cost of postage for the set due to weight.
