Original copper-plate engraving of Mecca on laid paper (39.5 x 57.5 cm. overall), with vertical folds as issued. The print showcases the architectural layout of the mosque, prominently featuring the Kaaba at its centre. Some light toning and occasional foxing, generally very good. Bernard Picart (1673-1733) was a French engraver renowned for his detailed and accurate representations of religious ceremonies and customs. His work played a crucial role in the Enlightenment's interest in comparative religion and anthropology. His Cérémonies et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples du monde remains one of the most significant ethnographic works of the 18th century.
