First edition of this rare 17th-century anatomical and theological treatise by the eminent Danish physician and anatomist Thomas Bartholini (1616â "1680), most famous for his discovery of the human lymphatic system. In De Latere Christi Aperto, Bartholin offers a scholarly and scientific reflection on the physical nature of Christâ s Passionâ "particularly the wound in Christâ s sideâ "combining medical observation with theological discourse. Written in the learned Latin of the period, the work exemplifies the eraâ s fusion of faith and anatomy, where religious mysteries were examined through the lens of empirical reasoning.
