A document created as part of efforts to revive the Forbidden City's Palace Museum, following the chaos of the Cultural Revolution. Opened in 1958, the Treasure Gallery displays exquisitely crafted objects made for the Qing emperors. Although the imperial complex escaped damage during the political excesses of the late-Mao era, the Palace Museum's exhibits in the early 1970s had a strong political flavour. This plan illustrates possible new arrangements for cases and displays in the museum's three constituent halls: the Hall of Spiritual Cultivation (Yangxing Dian), the Hall of Joyful Longevity (Leshou Tang), and the Hall of Well-nourished Harmony (Yihe Xuan). In 1987, the Forbidden City was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Landscape octavo (187 x 250 mm), unfolding concertina-style, 23 illustrated panels entirely in manuscript of pencil, ink, and colour. Light marking and signs of handling, covers with a little brown staining: very good.
