Five hand-drawn 12-frame storyboards by Martin Asbury depicting action near the end of the opening fight sequence of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), between Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) and the Robot in the tomb. The artwork is done in black pen, black ink, blue crayon, grey wash and graphite pencil. Note: these are not prints, but are original artwork. The set is a sequence without interruption, though I have not displayed them consecutively; they are numbered 20 through to 38. One is marked 'delete' and is not numbered. The sequence depicts an early conception of the conclusion of the fight, with Lara Croft leaping from the statue onto the back of the robot and shooting it in the head, before jumping off with the robot in pursuit and athletically escaping, before reaching for a CD as the robot prepares to attack again; she shoots it again, it collapses; she presses eject and removes the 'Kill Lara Croft' disc in the robot and replaces it with the 'Lara's Party Mix' in her hand (in the film she inserts a card into the console on the robot). Her technical assistant Bryce then comes out to examine the wreckage. The action underwent several revisions before the final scene, so this is an early - yet also close to the final sequence - imagining of what the action would resemble. It is very interesting for this, showing the evolution of the action to its final form. Part of a set of storyboards for the entire sequence in my possession, accompanied by a Propstore certificate of authenticity, a photo of this can be supplied as well as a copy of receipt of purchase from Propstore. Martin Asbury is a highly renowned storyboard and comic artist, known for his longstanding Garth strip in the Daily Mirror and has done storyboards for almost 30 films, including Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2; Alien 3; Casino Royale; Batman Begins; Skyfall; Resident Evil; Labyrinth and many others. A4 sized paper (29.7cm by 21cm). Photographs also pictured of the verso of two of the storyboards, showing these are clearly not prints as the ink has penetrated. Posted in a hardened envelope.
