Square 8vo. pp. [16]. yellow printed wrappers. Rare, no other copy traced. It is thought that this series of exhibitions began in 1843 with a display of cartoons, but by 1845 and later, more serious topics were displayed. Here 120 paintings and 3 sculptures are described. The catalogue can be dated approximately by the entry for The Banishment of Aristeides by the late Benjamin Robert Haydon who died in 1846. Other artists represented are George Frederick Watts, John Everett Millais, John Ballantyne (Scottish), John Christian Schetky, Thomas Sydney Cooper, John Wilson Carmichael and others, mostly known for vast historical and marine paintings. Each entry gives the size and a description of the work.
