This commercial enterprise in search of whaling grounds and seals was funded by the Norwegian whaler Svend Foyn. By late 1894 the ship had penetrated the pack ice and entered the Ross Sea. At Cape Adare a crew including Kristensen, Bull and Carstens Borchgrevink went ashore, becoming the first men to set foot on the continent. There are 12 plates in the book showing sealers at work, a portrait of Foyn, and many of the ship surrounded by icebergs. RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions.
