Set of 5 volumes. Hardcover cloth (silver) over boards with complete d/j and slipcase. Folio. Pagination: vol-2 118 pp, vol-4 122 pp, vol-5 155 pp, vol-8 136 pp, vol-10 131pp. Each volume is heavily illustrated with b/w plate photographs and floor plans, with additional full colour, tipped in plate reproductions of Japanese wall paintings. Includes many one-page, two-page, and four-page (fold-out) spreads. Japanese language text and reading orientation (right to left). Originally published to commemorate the publisher's 60th anniversary. Missing from this set: 1 -ÂChisekiin, 3 - Daikakuji Temple, 6 - Nishi Honganji Temple, 7 - Kenninji Temple, 9 - Chion-in Temple. General condition of the text blocks: besides from some very slight yellowing all volumes are complete, clean, unmarked, and square with a strong binding. Each has a blind stamp in the upper left corner of the front board, and a short title stamped in black on the spine. General condition of the boards and spines: slight shelfwear to the edges and some lightly bumped corners, but overall clean and in very good condition. The dustjackets are clear plastic, slightly yellowed, with small soil marks (removable with careful cleaning). Vol-8 has a small chip missing from the upper right corner on the back, and a small enclosed tear in the lower left corner on the front. Finally, the slipcases are a combination of photographic paper over card with black cloth covering the head and foot. The cases are in generally good condition with noticeable wear to the edges and some light rubbing marks, but remain strong and square. Ephemera in this set includes: a letter from the supervisors on the publishing of the collection x5, an advertisement pamphlet for the 10 volume collection x2, an advertisement pamphlet for an Encyclopedia of Western Art x1, an advertisement pamphlet for an Encyclopedia of Modern Film x1, a restock card x1, and a publisher's feedback card x2.   Â.
