Small 8vo. lxxxiv, 227 pp. 3 (of 5) portrait plates. Light brown cloth with black lettering on spine and front cover. Minor wear to extremities; front hinge professionally reinforced; small Bombay bookseller stamp inside front cover; else a near fine copy this rare, pre-independence imprint. An historically important work as it was published the same year Nehru became Congress President at Lahore (Dec. 1929), where he called for Purna Swaraj (complete independence). Being printed in Allahabad, Nehru's hometown, makes this edition one of the earliest locally produced compilations of Nehru s words. Includes a biographical sketch covering Nehru s birth (1889), education in England, legal training, return to India, and political awakening; and a selection of his speeches from 1916 to the late 1920s, focusing on self-determination, socialism, the Indian National Congress, and anti-imperial solidarity.
