Elegant late Victorian gift book with selections by Andrew Marvell, Alexander Pope, and others. Quarto: [vi], 97, [1] pp. with frontispiece, decorated half title and chapter title pages, and profuse textual vignettes, all halftones after Edwin Austin Abbey and Alfred Parsons. In the publisher's chestnut russia binding designed by Stanford White, with gilt-stamped ornamental borders, floral ornamental patterned field, quill device with artist's monograms, and titling on the front panel; gilt-stamped floral ornamental bands, floral-decorated compartment, and titling on the spine; and repeating gilt-stamped borders and patterned field on the rear panel. All edges gilt, with dark olive coated endpapers with gold-printed ornamental borders and speckling. Period presentation inscription to the prefatory blank leaf.
