Soiling to upper edges, rubbing to board edges and corners, minimal scattered foxing. Folded maps exceptionally crisp, perhaps never opened. The second Fram expedition of 1898-1902, commanded by Otto Sverdrup. Thwarted in his attempt to advance on the North Pole through Smith Sound, Sverdrup wintered initially in the area west of Ellesmere Island. Over the next three years the expedition sent out sledging parties to explore the area.
