An association copy, inscribed on the half-title page: "To Jim Harrison, somewhere along a river -- learning and teaching -- with admiration, Sam Hamill, I.91" A seemingly scarce book--we can find no other copies online as of this writing--and more so signed. From the library of poet-novelist Jim Harrison in Livingston, MT. A nice association considering Harrison's interest in Asian literature and religion, as well as the fact that Sam Hamill was the co-founder of Copper Canyon Press which took on Harrison later in his life and continues to champion his poetry. Hamill was a poet and a prolific, important translator. Harrison remarked, "Hamill has reached the category of a National Treasure."A collection of translated poems from Li T'ai-po, an eighth century poet who is considered one of China's greatest. A near fine book in wraps with a little rubbing.
