John Wyse created this narrative based on the diaries of Civil and Mining Engineer Poole, "the only educated Englishman who has ever lived in Queen Charlotte Islands." This volume recounts the mining enterprise and other activities during Poole's eighteen-month stay, his problems with his white laborers and his relations with the Haida Indians.
