SILVER FLUTES BY TOWLE Modernistic black melamine bowl with sterling base & a coordinating salad set in Silver Flutes by Towle that were designed by Earl Pardon. The salad set measures 12" & the bowl is 4 1/2" tall & 11 1/2" wide. The pieces date from the 1960's. They are not monogrammed & are in excellent condition. Pardon studied painting & sculpture at the Memphis Academy of Art as part of the G.I. Bill, granting him the confidence to engage in all media. An attraction to jewelry drew him to the National Silversmiths Conferences in the late 1950s sponsored by Handy & Harman, but he remained largely self-taught. As a professor of art at Skidmore College from 1951 until his retirement in 1988, Pardon taught jewelry, painting, & sculpture. During the 1950s he designed for Towle Silversmiths & Old Newbury Crafters; material investigations from this period expanded his practice. in the last decade of his life, he focused on jewelry with the prodigious output of a piece a day.
