Colour printed paper map in Hebrew 70x50cm. Near fine, neatly folded. This was printed by Photo Offset United Artists Ltd, Tel Aviv. No date, cartographer or publisher is stated, but it was issued as part of an IDF General Staff Military Intelligence (Sayeret Matkal) series issued in 1958 as a training aid that included maps of the Near East, Middle East Oil, and Fertile Crescent. Sayeret Matkal was formed in 1957 as the IDF General Staff's elite Commando unit to operate deep inside Arab territory. Centred on the Nile, coverage is bounded by Derna in Libya (NW), the Jordan-Iraq border (NE), Mecca (SE), and the Egypt-Libya-Sudan border (SW) on a scale of approx 1:5M. The dating would place it after Suez around the time of the Syrian Crisis (August-Oct 1957, a major Cold War flashpoint), the overthrow of the Iraqi monarchy (July 1958), and the Lebanon Crisis (July-Oct 1958).
