An attractively bound later edition of one of the most popular books in the Antarctic canon, a firsthand account of the Discovery Expedition by Scott's second-in-command. The naval officer Edward Evans, first baron Mountevans (1880-1957), narrowly survived the expedition. He accompanied Scott on part of the journey but was forced to turn back due to bad health. He returned to England. where he raised money for the expedition. When he regained his health and travelled to reunite with the Terra Nova, he discovered that Scott had died on his return from the pole. Howgego III S13; Rosove 117.D4; Taurus 83.
