In a very good, unclipped dust jacket with shallow chipping at the upper edge of the spine area with a number of short closed tears and a 1/2 inch closed tear at the upper edge of the front panel. most of the fold to the rear flap missing. As pointed out by Schoyer's Books years ago, a first state is identified by the covered wagon on the spine and the pages bulk to 1 7/8 inches thick. The second state shows a man on horse back reading a book at the lower end of the spine.
