A scholarly account of Jerusalems historical development. Published in 1855 in Paris by J. Vermot, Libraire-Éditeur, this quarto edition, recognized by the Académie Française, systematically details significant historical phases of the city, from ancient periods through the Crusades and into the Ottoman era. Nine full-page engravings, including an author portrait frontispiece, accompany the text. Condition: Bound in green pebbled cloth boards with beveled edges and double blind-ruling to both covers. The spine is quarter leather with gilt panels, raised bands, and gilt lettering. Light rubbing shows on the corners and joints. All page edges are gilt and retain their sheen. Inside, the book is clean and complete. The paper remains firm. All illustrations are present.
