Typed manuscript from one of the more prolific pulp and screen writers of the mid century, Frank Gruber (1904-1969). Gruber began writing stories forWeird Tales,Shadow Magazine, The Spider,Black Mask,Dime Mystery, and others, publishing some 300 stories for over 40 magazines in the span of about 30 years. Once he caught on as a writer, he began turning his attention to novels, generally in the Western and Detective Fiction genres, publishing more than 60 in his lifetime. He also penned 65 screenplays, and numerous television scripts. This novel, publishedby Rinehart in 1948, was adapted into the 1949 film Fighting Man of the Plains, starring Randolph Scott, with the screenplay by Gruber. An excellent representation of the work, in manuscript form, of a versatile and influential writer across many literary and media genres. 11x8.5" sheets, carbon copy, typed rectos only, 207pp. Brad bound in red wraps with title on front cover and literary agency stamp of H.N. Swanson, Inc. From the library of Frank Gruber label attached to inside front cover, "Typed by Massey's" label inside rear cover, H.N. Swanson stamp to title sheet and first page. Faint staining along upper margin of pages, wraps worn and soiled with a couple instances of red bleed through to first and last pages. Very good
