In fair condition, with edge wear, and scuffing to boards. Chips and losses down spine. Starting to hinges. Text block remains bound well with light binding wear. Includes a variety of uncollated plates throughout in both black-and-white and color. Some loss to adjacent tissue guards. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. A merger of Burton s Magazine and Atkinson s Casket, it published short stories and content on poetry, critical reviews, music, and fashion. Known for its illustrations and wides array of popular contributions, it was among the first magazines to copyright each issue. A frequent publisher of works by Edgar Allan Poe, this edition contains multiple criticisms and reviews by him, including commentaries on pieces related to William Ellery Channing and James Fenimore Cooper.
