New edition [1st pub. 1898]. 8vo. pp. viii, 312; port. frontis., one large folding map, plates and illusts.; some embrowning to free endpapers, occasional spotting, else very good in original cloth, gilt, minor wear to foot of upper joint. De Windt set off from Juneau intending to complete a journey to Paris by land. He visited the Klondike just as the gold rush had begun, but his narrative is more important for his account of a stay with the Tchuktchis on the coast of Siberia, the first European to do so. De Windt was eventually picked up by the whaler Belvedere, and returned to San Francisco.
