Illustrated with 24 full-page black & white photographs taken by the author. Illustrated end papers. The book is a collection of essays about Mills' adventures and observations as a naturalist in the Rocky Mountains. Often called the "Father of Rocky Mountain National Park," Mills was a prominent conservationist whose writing helped spark appreciation for America's wilderness. More than a travelogue, the book offers a deeper look into the natural world of the Colorado Rockies and the awe it inspired in Mills. His evocative writing describes the landscape's natural beauty and the intricate details of the wildlife he encounters. Condition: The front cover has a small stain spot at the bottom-right corner; the back cover has a small stain spot near the top-left corner. Sharp cover corners. There is a small stain spot at the top of the long edge of the text block. Nice interior - the text pages are clean and nearly appear unread with only a couple light smudges on page 289, and a couple light finger smudges at the outer margin of pages 139. There is in inscription written in ink dated 1921 on a front end paper. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
