First edition hardcover in red paper covered boards with black spine title. Spine ends and tips lightly bumped, hint of sunning at head of spine from former chip on dust wrapper. Fep neatly excised, no names or tears, and only light foxing on edge of page block and in the tight, bright 256pp text with a dozen b/w line drawings by Charlotte Hough. Original, un-clipped color illustrated dust wrapper has repaired chips at spine ends with loss to title at head, moderate soil on cream background rear panel, color loss at tips and along front flap fold. An exciting book that has become difficult to obtain. It is a terrible calamity when the Days tell Sandy and Laurence that the lease of their farm has run out and the owner wishes to sell at a price which they cannot afford. If the Days leave the farm, it means the end of the Chill Valley Foxhounds, for the hounds must be sold and the hunt disbanded. This is a thought too terrible to be borne, and when the Days say that the owner is willing to sell the kennels separately for 500 quid, Sandy and Laurence become determined that somehow that amount must be raised.
